Art Auctions As Fundraisers Print E-mail

Art auctions are a very popular way for organizations or charity groups to raise money.
It raises good money, gets a lot of publicity for both the organization and for artists, and collectors can often get great things at reasonable prices.

If your organization is thinking of using an art auction as a means of raising money, there are some things that you should think about implementing. Always publish a submission guideline so artists who donate will understand every aspect of the auction very clearly. Tell them what type of art sells the best, the price ranges that you expect most bidders will find enticing, and how they can best present their work. If artists know how an auction is promoted, it will also influence how important a work they decide to donate. If you ask the artists to set the minimum bid and in what area to keep their sell prices, there will less bitterness afterwards. Try to publish a sale catalogue or at least a good listing. If you can include some biographical information about the artist, thats even better. Get it listed in the local newspaper and do send out brochures to attendees. The more you promote, the more youre going to sell come time for the auction. Make sure the venue has plenty of room and good lighting, and that when the time comes, the most wealthy and active bidders get the best seats. Its a good way to make them spend more. Your auctioneer is very important. He or she should be knowledgeable and amusing because a charity art auction is as much entertainment as a way to raise money.

The more upscale you make the auction look, the more money youll raise.
