Donating To Art Auctions Print E-mail

For local or regional artists, donating work to a charity art auction is an excellent way of getting you and your work better known. Its up to you to make decisions on which auctions to donate to, and it pays to think it through.

Many artists prefer to donate to organizations that support the visual arts, but as with most people there are also pet health or educational organizations too. If you believe strongly in the goals of the organization youre donating to, then it doesnt matter whether your work sells high or low. It was for a good cause. When contacted to donate a piece of art, ask plenty of questions because it will help you decide which of your work will do the best in bidding. The organization can tell you who is attending, what their tastes may be and what price ranges are the best. In any case, you want to donate a good piece. Dont donate outdated or things that you think of as some of your lesser work. After all, this is a public showing and you want to be known for your good work not some of your bad pieces. When you submit your piece, make sure you include a bio for the organization to print up. If people dont already know you, this is another way to get your name out there to them. Set your prices low because it is better to have small bids rather than none at all. You dont want to walk out the door carrying the piece you donated. It can be embarrassing! Being cooperative with your pricing will go along way, and one must always remember that the event is for charity and a good cause. The publicity you receive from it is a great add on, but it isnt everything either.
